When I first heard about the Wombat Cafe I was over the moon! A cafe that was completely Vegan – it was about time!
When you first arrive the interior is clean, modern and fresh, there is plenty of tables as well as a really large table with lounge area for bigger groups. The counter has a coffee and smoothie station along with a display fridge with salads and sweet treats. On the opposite side there is a small market area with well sourced Vegan products to take home and fill the pantry and the fridge.
The menu offers a substantial list of all day breakfast, lunch and smoothie options. To my delight they serve a mean latte using Little Rebel Coffee – with an option of soy, coconut or almond milk. In terms of the food – over my last few visits I have started working my way through the menu. I have sampled the “Big Breakfast” which consists of tofu scramble, mushrooms, beans and hash browns – it definitely lives up to its name and was delicious. The banana pancakes were a hit with my little girls – loaded with berries and vanilla nicecream. Being a fan of Mexican food I was quick to try the Chilli Con Carne and the loaded Nachos – they definitely didn’t disappoint and were packed with flavour and a hint of chilli. The Avo Smash comes with local Vegan Fetta (that I love) and cherry tomatoes and is by far my favourite meal at Wombat. Next trip I will by trying the “Loaded Dawg”.
I highly recommend this cafe to anyone Vegan or not – the food is absolutely amazing, nutritious and flavoursome. It is a clear example of how far Vegan food has come in recent years and how easy it is to make friendly food choices.
As an added bonus the lovely Hillview Reserve is across the road where you can walk off your full tummy, soak up some sunshine and watch some ducks paddling through the reeds.
Wombat Cafe can be found at the Boundary Road shops in Dromana.
